Description
The Christmas Island Special fills a hole in the S. S. Flies bonefish collection. This fly has a lot of flash; the tail, body and part of the wing are all sparkle. We do this fly pretty true to the original, the body is thicker and tougher than most commercially tied patterns and of course we substitute our favorite fox fur for the typical craft fur wing.
Any one going to Christmas Island needs to bring a bunch of these flies but bonefish in the deeper flats though out the Bahamas will gobble up it up. Captains poling the most challenging bonefish flats around Islamorada always have some flashy bonefish patterns on board, our Christmas Island Special is just the thing when the Downtown fish are keyed on sparkle.
This fly is fairly heavy and will get down in the deeper part of the flats. It comes in three colors and three sizes all on Gamakatsu SL-11 hook. The #4 is a heavy weighted fly more for the Bahamas, the #6 and #8 are lighter and a little sparse perfect for Christmas Island.
