Most bonefish flats are tan, most great bonefish flies are tan. But there’s room for variation on this theme. In Bob Ververka’s book “Innovative Saltwater Flies” Brian O’Keefe’s section features three favorite bonefish flies all tan, all with a similar profile.
S.S.Flies has taken his basic Bonefish Turd pattern, custom blended fur and twisted it in a loop so the body has more movement then the original pattern. Both our offerings are basically tan but one has a hint of pink the other olive. With the addition of our exclusive natural buff chicken marabou this fly attracts bonefish with a gentle strip. When fishing this pattern look for the bonefish to light up on the fly, stop the strip and let it settle, then wait for the bonefish to suck it in.
Originally designed as a bonefish fly the B-turd has also been fed to a number of permit. We now stock a # B-turd tied on the heavy wire Gamakatsu SL11 and up weighted to drop fast to get an Mr Permi’s face.
