We'd scratch our heads, let it rest and try something else. Eventually we added dubbing underneath the wing and worked in some micro legs to compliment the typical silicone legs. The notoriously difficult Islamorada bonefish will eat it. It'll perform well in the Yucatan where the original Pop's Bonefish Bitters was introduced. And Bahama's bonefish? They'll crush the S.S.Bitters.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe S.S. Bitters comes with a weed guard and in two sizes, #6 and #4. It's a little heavier than a fly weighted with bead chain eyes but because of the body and wing material it sinks no faster than a typical bonefish fly. We have three colors tan, olive and brown. Tan and olive are obvious but when customers first saw this pattern they really wanted a brown version. Brown is an essential color in Hawaii and important on other bonefish flats but we developed the color scheme more with redfish in mind. Carp will eat this thing too.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"S.S. These crabs tend to be no bigger than a nickel, they have short but prominent legs and blend in with the bottom. A normal crab pattern about the size of a quarter is two big, a solid colored crab doesn't look like the real thing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen fishing the Belize flats you need a small mottled or camouflage colored crab. The popular Bauer Fur Crab was developed to imitate the permit forage on these flats, but they don't normally come in the necessary colors. Over the years we've perfected the technique of mixing a variety of colors to match these little permit snacks. We've also developed a unique weighting system. On the bottom of the Camo Crab we attached a small weighted button we make here at S.S. Flies. It sinks well, is perfectly balanced and when it hits the water it makes a distinct \"plop\" that captains covet in a crab fly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNote on the sizing of Camo Crabs:\u003cbr\u003eOutfitters suggest #6 crabs for Belize, the Camo Crab is on a very short shank #2 hook (Gamakatsu sc15).  We use this hook because it produces the equivalent of a #6 but with a much wider hook gape then a size six hook.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"S.S. Looking at the commercial versions we immediately saw room for improvement. Our clients were going to be fishing skinny to deep water so we used a smaller than normal eye as well as heavier version. Crab patterns always work better with Cree hackles for legs so we made that substitute.  A weed guard and cool looking eyes rounded out our pattern development.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe reports were great. Anglers loved how the fly looked in the water; it naturally settled in a defensive crab position on the bottom and when needed, it stripped well and didn't spin. The Raghead caught fish on days when the fishing was great and other days when fish were refusing all other flies.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlthough small crabs like the Raghead are usually fished in the Caribbean this fly has been effective on the big fish in the Keys. Brian Eliason landed a 51 lb permit on a Raghead in 2003!
