A modified Chernobyl Crab, this fly is specifically tuned for Biscayne Bay and the Everglades but will work in many other places. Capt. Honson Lau sent us the original version thinking it could be tweaked a bit. We added feather tails, messed with the deer hair then added a crystal chenille body and had him test it. The response (from both the snook and captain) was enthusiastic. Although the St. Alfonzo looks a bit "shrimpy" it’s likely this fly is more often taken for one of the many baitfish living in the prop roots. The two colors we offer, tan with a little pink and all white approximate many of the available bait.

When fishing for snook it is essential to get the fly to the right depth. Capt. Lau tied some St. Alfonzos with large bead chain eyes to get it deeper when needed. We offer the same size fly tied with the two different size eyes.

St. Alfonzos are tied on Gamakatsu SC15 hooks with a looped foul guards to keep the tails from fouling on the hook. With our bent fluorocarbon weed guard this fly is ready for the nastiest mangroves or the densest turtle grass.
